Bloc Party

No, I don't mean the Flemish nationalist/xenophobic political party recently disbanded by a Belgian Court. The Bloc Party I like are a bunch of young guys from London, who have been putting out consistently good singles throughout the year, and whose debut album will be released some time in 2005. I particularly liked 'Banquet', but their new single 'Helicopter' (out October 25th in the UK) is arguably their best yet. Angry attitude, power-pop melodies, dirty rock guitars, incredibly fast beats demanding that you let down your hair and dance, nearly-falsetto vocals that recall Robert Smith at times (hey, it worked for The Rapture too), and, in this new single, one of the catchiest choruses I've heard all year ("Are you hoping for a miracle?..."). When they become next year's Franz Ferdinand, tell everyone you heard it here first.

Enjoy!
